Xbox 360 Motion-Sensing Device Set To Take On Wii

June 15, 2010 www.itproportal.com

Microsoft has demonstrated a number of motion-sensing games for its new Kinect controller-free Xbox 360 gaming peripheral.

The company unveiled the peripheral, previously known only by the code name Project Natal, at a press conference on Sunday.

The device allows users to play games without the need for a handheld controller. Instead, the hardware will sport a stapler-size device that tracks body movements, obeys voice commands, recognises faces and is controlled by a thin TV remote like device.

Kinect is a "controller-free gaming and entertainment experience" by Microsoft, based on a design by Israeli developer PrimeSense Ltd. The device has been heavily influenced by the success of the Nintendo Wii.

Microsoft is yet to reveal details of any of the games to be launched with the Kinect, but the company is expected to issue a number of titles including River Rush, Ricochet, Living Statue, and Obstacle Course.

The software maker has currently barred game-developing partners from revealing any details about potential releases.
