Aternity and MobileIron Team Up To Deliver User-Centric Analytics, Performance Management for Mobility

Aternity Inc. is partnering with MobileIron to deliver a rich set of features for a mobile-first lifecycle, with support for application performance management, along with capabilities to measure, manage, and improve the productivity of mobile users.

“Through our partnership, Aternity’s mobile APM capabilities empower MobileIron customers to ensure a successful mobile strategy by delivering excellent mobile end user experience for their tech-dependent workforces,” said Trevor Matz, president and CEO of Aternity, in the statement.

Aternity Workforce APM enables MobileIron Platform customers to:
Ensure quality mobile user experience for custom apps distributed by the MobileIron Apps@Work enterprise storefront
Instrument custom mobile apps for diagnostics and user interactions without requiring access to the code or an app developer, or action to be taken by the end user
Address a full range of mobile application performance management (APM) use cases for developers of mobile enterprise apps, IT Ops who support them, and the lines of business that rely on them to grow and transform their markets
Unlike APM products that manage performance from a datacenter perspective, Aternity Workforce APM takes the point of view of an end user’s device, as well as the use experience of all apps across devices. Because the Aternity Workforce APM brings this to MobileIron’s platform, Matz said several key IT and business stakeholders across the mobile lifecycle can benefit.

Among them:
App Developers: Can monitor apps in real time, analyze problems to determine the cause, prioritize response to the most critical issues, and optimize app performance across devices, OSs, geos, and carriers
IT Operations: Can guarantee service delivery by proactively identifying incidents, correlating app performance to the underlying infrastructure to determine the cause, and rapidly resolving problems
Line of Business: Can ensure business activities executed on mobile meet SLAs, validate expected gains in productivity, and track the impact of mobile on the data plan

Aternity Workforce APM lets IT define business activities and user interactions with applications in the context of a business workflow, to enable fine-grained analysis of how app performance impacts workforce productivity and other business metrics. In the words of an Aternity whitepaper, “Aternity Workforce APM closes the visibility gap between your workforce’s real user experience and what application-centric APM tools are telling you about your application components, transactions, and the underlying code that supports them.

The Aternity whitepaper described how it works this way:
With Aternity, any user interaction or network event can be used to create a “signature” that defines a business activity. Signatures define the start and end events that the business wants to measure, and can represent a single interaction or a multi-step business process. Neither application development skills nor Aternity engineering skills are needed to create signatures. They are configured from the Aternity console, and can be changed on the fly without redeploying the application.
MobileIron’s platform manages and secures mobile apps, content, and devices. Aternity Workforce APM lets enterprises ensure high-performance end user experience. Working together, Aternity Workforce APM lets enterprises add mobile end user experience management to the management, security, and infrastructure monitoring capabilities of the MobileIron platform.

“A rich ecosystem of secure third-party apps is essential for a successful enterprise mobility program and we continually seek to partner with mobile technology leaders whose innovation will further equip our customers to become Mobile first,” said Sean Convery, Vice President of Product Management, MobileIron, in a statement. “Aternity’s Workforce APM Platform helps MobileIron’s customers extend their mobility initiatives by offering app analytics to improve mobile app performance and employee productivity,” he added.
